Ajax Waterfront Parking Survey

The Ajax Waterfront spans over 150 acres and is a very popular destination for residents and visitors. As one of the most picturesque waterfronts in Southern Ontario, many come to experience the scenic views, participate in recreational activities and use the 7 km stretch of trails for walking, running and cycling.

After an increase in usage and feedback from residents, Ajax Council approved the 2021 Ajax Waterfront Parking Management program to:

  • Manage increased parking on weekends and public holidays
  • Minimize disruptive behaviors
  • Allow for a balance of usage between residents, non-residents and larger organized groups.

The program only runs during the busy summer months and concluded in the fall (May 15 - September 11, 2021).

To help evaluate the program, the Town has launched a survey to seek feedback from the public on the success of the program and to identify possible improvements. The survey will be live until December 14, 2021. The survey results will be presented to Council in January 2022.

2021 highlights:

  • More than 7,000 Ajax residents registered for their free waterfront parking permits.
  • 4,600 paid visitor permits were purchased by non-residents.
  • Any revenues received from visitor parking is used to help offset the cost of management and maintenance of the waterfront.
  • A team of Municipal Bylaw Officers issued more than 1,500 parking tickets to those who parked without a permit, as well as hundreds of tickets for parking and Parks Bylaw violations.
